Two shot in taxi robbery near Pretoria

The victims of the armed robbery were robbed of their personal belongings during a taxi ride from Mabopane to the Pretoria CBD.

Two people were shot and injured while over 10 passengers lost their belongings in an armed robbery on the Mabopane Highway near the Rosslyn off-ramp in Tshwane on Wednesday.

The victims were all passengers on a minibus taxi from Mabopane, north of Pretoria, to the CBD.

According to taxi driver Daniel Kgwadi, the incident happened at around 10:00, when two passengers demanded to alight near the Rosslyn off-ramp.

“When I stopped, they produced firearms and started demanding money and cell phones,” said Kgwadi.

He said one passenger was shot in the leg and another in the lower body.

“The suspects ran into the bushes and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, cell phones and other property,” said Kgwadi.

Akasia police are investigating a case of armed robbery.
