Tzaneen girl (6) hailed a hero after voice note saves mom’s life

A brave little girl sent a voice note that led emergency responders to her ailing mother, helping to save her life.

The Tzaneen community is rallying to support the family of a courageous six-year-old girl who helped save her mother’s life.

Letaba Herald reports that the Grade R learner from a Tzaneen primary school won the hearts of residents after she sent a voice note to the Evac Emergency Dispatch WhatsApp group, pleading for help.

Although her message wasn’t entirely clear, her words were urgent: “Ambulance picking up my mommy, is busy dying, come make her wake.”

Evac responded immediately by calling the number the message came from.

While the girl could not provide directions to their home, she managed to hand the phone to her mother, who was fortunately able to guide paramedics to their location in Tzaneen town.

Emergency services arrived promptly, treated and stabilised the woman, and transported her to Van Velden Hospital, where she was admitted. She was later transferred to a hospital in Polokwane for further medical tests. She has since been discharged and is recovering at home, while also being treated for an ear infection.

The school’s secretary says: “The family, consisting of the mother, father and their daughter, recently moved to Tzaneen. The mother is currently unemployed but is seeking work in the administrative field once she has recovered. The father was at work when the medical emergency occurred.”

  • The name of the school and the identities of the mother and child were withheld on request.
