Umalusi launches matric certificate replacement portal

The process of replacing a lost matric certificate has now been simplified.

Matric exam quality assurer Umalusi has launched an online portal for anyone who has lost their certificate to apply for a copy.

The council announced on Thursday that its upgraded portal had significantly reduced its turnaround time and cost of replacing lost or damaged certificates.

“Candidates can access the system via cell phone or computer to apply directly to Umalusi for replacement of certificates,” the assurer said.

The assurer said the portal is helpful, convenient and easy to access. It said learnings from other systems helped it improve its own system.

Soshanguve matric learner Asanda Jele said she is happy that the system is implemented, and now she won’t have to go to the Department of Education to apply for a new senior certificate.

“Things have changed, I can now apply online it is fast and easy for me,” she said.

Applicants would be able to collect their replacement certificates from Umalusi within two working days of applying.
