UPDATE: Alleged step child killer to appear in court

The 28-year-old woman accused of killing her stepdaughter in Kamhlushwa, Mpumalanga will appear in Tonga Magistrates’ Court on Monday for a formal bail application.

Tonga police spokesperson Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi told The Citizen the suspect made a brief appearance in court yesterday, and her bail application was postponed to Monday, March 30.

Nyambi said police received a call informing them the community of Kamhlushwa had gone to Mzinti Trust, where Klara Masinga confessed to giving the child an overdose of medicine and dumping her body in the bushes next to her house on Sunday.

Nyambi said the body was found in a bush next to Mlumati River, about 200m from the suspect’s house, covered with used pampers and an empty bag of mielie meal.

“The body was then taken to Tonga state mortuary for postmortem, and the mother of the deceased will be given counselling,” added Nyambi.
