UPDATE: Missing Kraaifontein boy found floating in a dam

The 4-year-old boy who went missing last week while playing near his Wallacedene home, in Cape Town has been found floating in a dam.

The child’s body was found in Nuutgewek farm’s dam on Botfontein road in Kraaifontein on Sunday.

Police were contacted by a community member who saw the body of a small child floating in the water. Initial investigations on the scene revealed the clothes of the deceased child matched those of the missing boy described in the missing reports, said provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk.

Van Wyk told The Citizen the parents of the deceased have positively identified him as Bukho Mktyalwa. The deceased is believed to have drowned.

“We are, however, waiting for postmortem results as investigations are continuing,” added Van Wyk.

In a separate incident, the body of a man was found floating in the water at a Durban beach front last month.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics arrived at the Durban North beach front at about 9.22pm and found the man’s body floating out at sea. The man is believed to have drowned.

“[National Sea Rescue Institute] staff pulled the man back to the beach, [and] after medics examined him, it was found that he had tragically died,” Botha said.

Botha added details surrounding how the man ended up in the water were still speculative and would remain a subject for police investigation.
