VIDEO: Clover employees march to Roodepoort headquarters

The members claimed there were no real negotiations with Clover.

On Wednesday, 21 October, Clover employees took to the streets and marched to the company’s headquarters in Roodepoort.

The strike follows failed wage negotiations between management and the General Industrial Workers’ Union of South Africa (GIWUSA).

The workers are demanding a 16 per cent salary increase, while Clover is offering three per cent, resulting in the two parties failing to reach an agreement.

According to GIWUSA, they are demanding a double-digit wage increase and control over labour brokers.

The members claimed there were no real negotiations with Clover.

A statement released by the union read:

“Giwusa had to declare a wage dispute and drag the company to the CCMA. Only at the CCMA did the company make a wage offer of three per cent and the company insisted that all other conditions of employment remain the same, and refused to shift from this stance.

“Giwusa and its members are not accepting that workers are to pay the price of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
