VIDEO: Dashcam captures alleged hit-and-run
An alleged drunk driver was captured on video driving straight into three pedestrians in KwaZulu-Natal.
The incident was captured by Rowan Adamson from NR Towing, who was driving behind the vehicle last week, South Coast Herald reported.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said the three pedestrians – all women – were injured and were taken to hospital.
Meanwhile Lappies Labuschagne of Maser Security, managed to chase down the driver who had sped off following the collision.
Labuschagne managed to get the driver to pull over near the petrol station in Uvongo. He was later arrested by police and detained.
Captain Mfeka said bystanders told police the man ‘smelled of liquor’. He was taken to Port Shepstone hospital for a blood sample to be taken.
He has since been charged with reckless or negligent driving as well as drunk driving.
The incident came after CCTV footage of an alleged hit-and-run accident which took place earlier this month in Lenasia, in the south of Johannesburg, emerged.
In the video a group of pedestrian are seen walking in the street before a car runs over one of them and drives off.
