VIDEO: KZN ‘tornado’ damages homes

About 20 houses have been severely damaged after a tornado hit Actonville, near Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, last night.

Residents said bricks were seen flying through the air, with some injuring people, Ladysmith Gazette reported.

Police reports indicated three people sustained minor to serious injuries.

Clean-up operations started this morning, with Bergville protection services on scene.

Superintendent Freddie Halgreen is now helping residents with food parcels and plastic to help with protecting their homes.

Many residents have been left without food and electricity.

In November, video footage emerged of a tornado sweeping through Vryheid and Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal.

In the footage, Vryheid residents are seen watching as the tornado touches down.

Weather SA forecaster Izekiel Sebego told The Citizen tornadoes were mostly likely to hit the eastern parts of the country during spring and autumn.

Sebego added it was “normal” for tornadoes to be observed.
