VIDEO: Security guards arrest suspected house robbers
Four suspected house robbers are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrates’ Court for a formal bail application after CCTV footage emerged showing the suspects being arrested by security guards in Umzumbe, KwaZulu-Natal.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said Constable Mark Banjo from the Port Shepstone K9 Unit received a request for assistance from a security company, which had arrested suspects in Umzumbe, South Coast Herald reported.

The video, captured last Friday at about 9.40pm, shows the suspects’ vehicle pulling over in the street. Two of the suspects are seen running towards the premises of a house as the security guards pounce on them.
Grant Wood, vice-chairperson of the Umzumbe Beach Ratepayers’ Association (UBRA), said the Gladiator team tackled and apprehended the gang on the railway line after they were picked up on camera by the control room in Hibberdene.
Wiid said one of the suspects had disappeared into the bushes. Banjo and his dog, Caesar, arrived at the scene and shortly afterwards the man was caught. The suspect was found in possession of a bolt cutter, torch and a golf club. A stolen laptop and bags filled with clothing were recovered.
“So far, seven cameras have been installed in and around Umzumbe, and two more are expected to be added. Since the installation of these cameras, crime in Umzumbe has dropped by 90%,” added Wood.
The suspects, Mthembene, 21, Sakhile, 21, Sphiwe Cele, 28, and the fourth unidentified suspects were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. They will appear in court in June 1 for bail application.
Earlier this month, video footage emerged showing a 22-year-old man being carried by a group of men after he allegedly snatched a bag from a woman on the corner of Amsterdam and OR Tambo streets in Witbank, Mpumalanga.
The victim, Busi Nxumalo, was on her way to work when her handbag was snatched from her. The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards by a businessman from Magic Plumbing and his team. In the video, the suspect is seen being carried by four men. He was put at the back of a bakkie as three women beat him, one using a broomstick.
