Videos: 4 arrested after man gunned down near police station in Johannesburg South
A tip-off and quick response led to arrests and the recovery of firearms and drugs.
Four suspects were arrested in a block of flats on Arlington Street in South Hills, in Johannesburg South, yesterday, following a fatal shooting near the Moffat View Police Station.
Southern Courier reports that, according to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, police received a call about a shooting incident in the Moffat View policing precinct yesterday morning.
“On arrival, our members found a 63-year-old man who had just been shot. The victim was certified dead on the scene. Preliminary investigation indicated that he was shot by two or more suspects,” says Masondo.
He says the information led police to Arlington Street, where a car believed to have been used in the crime was spotted. One suspect was arrested inside the vehicle after being found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. This arrest led police to three more suspects.
“We can confirm that four suspects were arrested in connection with the murder. When searching their flats and their possession, we recovered firearms, ammunition and drugs,” Masondo adds.

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame, who was at the scene, commended police for their swift breakthrough while appealing to residents to play their part in fighting crime.
“We are in South Hills, in Arlington Street. This morning, we had another death where a 63-year-old man was fatally shot. I’m quite glad that SAPS had a breakthrough. We found one of the flats with a whole lot of ammunition and drugs.

“I really want to urge residents… we need to stop these killings. We cannot bury our children every week or every month. Please, if you know something, go to SAPS and speak up because tomorrow it could be your father, your child or your mother.
