Watch: Alleged mastermind behind KZN councillor’s killing denied bail

Simphiwe Zuma, accused of masterminding DA councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu’s murder, is denied bail amid multiple pending murder cases.

The Howick Magistrate’s Court today denied bail to Simphiwe Zuma, who stands accused of masterminding the murder of DA councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu in the uMngeni Municipality.

According to The Witness, Zuma (55), the leader of the Nxamalala Tribal Authority, faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

Ndlovu was gunned down at his home in Emasosheni, near Mpophomeni, in the presence of his family.

The state said the motive behind Ndlovu’s murder was linked to the sale of land in Emasosheni, land that was in dispute with the uMngeni Municipality.

The state also alleged Ndlovu was targeted for being outspoken against illegal electricity connections in the area.

Shortly after Magistrate Donna Sindane delivered her ruling, Zuma requested to address the court.

Zuma proclaimed his innocence, saying: “The truth will be revealed.”

With a sombre look on his face, he continued to look towards his supporters in the court gallery, repeating that the truth would eventually come out.

Zuma facing multiple murder cases

Zuma is also facing similar charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder in a separate case involving the killing of Qalokunye Zuma in Impendle in January 2023. He was previously granted R25 000 bail in that matter.

However, the state has applied to have that bail revoked. The magistrate who initially granted the bail has recused herself from the case.

Additionally, Zuma faces charges related to the murder of Xolani Ndlovu Ntombela, who was shot and killed in Emasosheni in November 2022.
