Watch: Brazen hijacking at Durban supermarket

Gunmen approach the woman shortly after she got out of her vehicle.

Security video footage shows a brazen hijacking, where a woman had to helplessly look on while robbers drive off with her car at Oxford Supermarket in Bluff, Durban earlier today.

In the video, gunmen approach a woman shortly after she had parked her car, with one armed robber staying behind with the victim until the getaway and targeted vehicle have left the parking lot before he crosses the sidewalk and climbs into one of the vehicles.

Oxford Supermarket on Tara Road issued a statement on their social media platforms advising customers that the victim was safe, and the store remains open.

The statement by the supermarket reads, “Dear Bluff customers, it has come to our attention that there is concern that our store was robbed this morning. This is not the case.

“There was, however, a very unfortunate hijacking incident this morning outside our store. The victim and all those around are safe and unharmed. Our deepest sympathies to the victim for their ordeal. Our store remains open, and we are assisting where we can with this incident.”

Brighton Beach police are investigating the hijacking.
