WATCH: Fire breaks out at Springfield building

Firefighters rushed to the scene to fight the blaze.

A fire broke out at a building on Peter Road in Springfield Park on Saturday, December, 11.

Spokesperson for Marshall Security, Andreas Mathios said eThekwinin Fire Services had arrived on the scene just after 08:00.

“The eThekwini Fire Department have sent every resource they have to fight this fire. They arrived quickly on the scene,” he said.

“eThekwinin Fire Department must be commended for their quick response and attempts to get the fire under control. Working under extreme heat conditions, the firefighters tackled the fire from different sides, including an aerial sky lift,” said Mathios.

Mathios said the fire had been contained at about 09:20. At this stage, the cause of the fire is unconfirmed.

“The cause of the fire will only be determined after investigations. Various business owners have arrived on  Peter Road have arrived to find their businesses have been totally destroyed,” said Mathios.

“Damage is expected to run into millions of rands,” he added.
