Watch: Hippo joins golfers on Richards Bay green

Richards Bay golfers had a different kind of spectator on Tuesday when a hippo paid them a surprise visit on the green.

Four golfers endured a ‘green invasion’ on Tuesday afternoon when attempting to play their game at Richards Bay Country Club in KZN.

Enjoying a respite from the rain, Dr Frank van Niekerk and his fellow golfers had to keep an eye on the local wildlife and make sure their chips were on target when a hippo joined them for the afternoon, Zululand Observer reports.

The hippo paid Van Niekerk et al a surprise visit at the green closest to the clubhouse.

This was not Van Niekerk’s first hippo encounter while playing golf at Richards Bay Country Club.

In March 2021, he and three fellow golfers had to put their game on hold while a hippo wandered onto the green and grabbed the flag post before leaving them be.
