Watch: Investigation launched after Durban cop spotted using police vehicle for own use

The on-duty policeman is seen on a viral video buying grain and loading it into a state-owned vehicle.

A viral video, showing an on-duty policeman allegedly buying grain for his personal use and loading it into a state-owned vehicle, has sparked an investigation.

The video shows a policeman in uniform collecting grain next to parked heavy trucks and driving away in a SAPS bakkie.

According to SAPS Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a preliminary investigation has revealed that the member is a sergeant attached to the Durban Harbour.

“The SAPS views such action in a serious light and assures members of the public that resources such as state vehicles are there to ensure optimal running and functioning of the service and to service our communities,” said Mathe.
