Watch: Limpopo musician remanded as police pursue more serious charges

Shebeshxt remains in custody as authorities investigate additional charges that could see his case escalated.

Popular Limpopo musician Katlego Lehlogonolo Chauke (30), known by his stage name Shebeshxt, has been remanded in custody as police continue investigating additional charges against him that could see his case upgraded to a more serious schedule.

Polokwane Review reports that Shebeshxt appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this morning facing charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property and the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Charges linked to road rage incident

The charges stem from a road rage incident in Ladanna on October 19, during which Petros Ralefatane (34) was shot and injured along Witklip Street, allegedly by Shebeshxt.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

According to Limpopo police, the arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation in Bendor yesterday morning, conducted by the Provincial Investigation Unit and Provincial Tracking Team after detectives obtained a warrant of arrest linked to two counts of attempted murder registered at the Westenburg Police Station.

Vehicles seized for forensic analysis

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the musician’s vehicles were seized during his arrest for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing probe.

Meanwhile, provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the investigation and operational teams for their action and professionalism.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and a dedicated team was appointed to ensure that no stone is left unturned. The SAPS reiterates that no one is above the law, regardless of their social standing,” Hadebe said.

Prosecutors consider combining cases

Prosecutors have indicated their intention to secure details of a separate pending matter against the musician in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court, which could be consolidated with his current case.

This may elevate the combined offences from Schedule 5 to Schedule 6, depending on the findings.

Shebeshxt’s next court appearance will include profiling and further investigations are expected to continue before a bail application is considered.

Previous tragedy

The rapper, known for his bold persona and frequent brushes with controversy, made headlines last year when his nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile, died in a car crash that left him with serious injuries, including internal bleeding and multiple fractures.

His next court appearance is scheduled for next Friday.
