Shebeshxt to remain behind bars as road rage case continues

Limpopo rapper Shebeshxt remains in custody as police continue their investigation into a road rage incident in Ladanna, Polokwane, on October 19.

POLOKWANE – Popular Limpopo musician Katlego Lehlogonolo Chauke (30), known by his stage name Shebeshxt, has been remanded in custody until November 21 as police continue investigating additional charges against him that could see his case upgraded to a more serious schedule.

Shebeshxt appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this morning (November 13) facing charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from a road rage incident in Ladanna on October 19, during which Shebeshxt allegedly shot and injured Petros Ralefatane (34) along Witklip Street.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

According to the Limpopo police, the arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation in Bendor on Wednesday morning (November 12), conducted by the Provincial Investigation Unit and Provincial Tracking Team after detectives obtained a warrant of arrest linked to two counts of attempted murder registered at the Westenburg police station.

The Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, said the musician’s vehicles were seized during his arrest for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing probe.

Meanwhile, the provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe, commended the investigation and operational teams for their swift action and professionalism.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and a dedicated team was appointed to ensure that no stone is left unturned. The SAPS reiterates that no one is above the law, regardless of their social standing,” Hadebe said.

Prosecutors have indicated their intention to secure details of a separate pending matter against the musician in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court, which could be consolidated with his current case.

This may elevate the combined offenses from Schedule 5 to Schedule 6, depending on the findings.

Shebeshxt’s next court appearance will include profiling and further investigations are expected to continue before a bail application is considered.

The rapper, known for his bold persona and frequent brushes with controversy, made headlines last year when his nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile, died in a car crash that left him with serious injuries, including internal bleeding and multiple fractures.
