Watch: Patient assault at Ladysmith hospital caught on camera

Two security guards have been suspended pending an investigation after a video of the incident was posted online.

The community is reeling in shock after a video showing security guards assaulting a patient at Ladysmith Provincial Hospital started doing the rounds on social media on Friday.

The patient was assaulted in a ward, allegedly by security personnel.

Hospital public relations officer Thabo Sithole commented that they have seen the video as well.

“Yes, we saw the video that was circulating on social media. After viewing the video, hospital management conducted an immediate investigation into the incident and the security guards involved were suspended immediately, pending an investigation.”

Sithole continued that: “As the hospital, we were shocked to witness such behaviour from our contracted security personnel. That is the reason we acted swiftly and those found responsible will face the disciplinary process, because, as the hospital, we are committed to ensuring that all patients under our care are treated with dignity and respect.”

Warning: The video may upset sensitive viewers.
