Watch: Robbers target accident victim, shoot at Durban paramedics

A bullet went through the ambulance above the driver’s head.

Shortly after a man was involved in an accident on Berea Road in Durban, a gang of robbers pounced on him and robbed him of his belongings, firing at an ambulance that responded to the scene, as they fled.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, their paramedics were alerted about the accident that had just occurred while they were driving down Berea Road just after 12:15.

“While responding to the scene, the paramedics saw men at the crashed vehicle with firearms drawn. Suspects then began shooting at our ambulance, and our crews managed to evade and call for help,” says Jamieson.

The paramedic staff were very lucky to escape without injury. A bullet hole went through the front cabin above the driver’s head and exited through the rear door.

“It is alleged that a foreign national was robbed of a large sum of cash by the suspects. No injuries to any persons on the scene were reported. The scene was handed over to SAPS to investigate further,” says Jamieson.

He adds that ALS Paramedics staff are shaken up, however, they are very grateful that no one was injured.

“We would like to encourage people to please stay safe and try to avoid carrying large amounts of cash on you,” says Jamieson.
