WATCH: Snakes come out to play in Richards Bay

It is expected that there will be an increase in reptile sightings owing to warmer weather.

It is not only the sun that comes out when the days get warmer – so too do the reptiles that have been keeping a low profile during the cooler winter months.

And so it was no surprise that renowned Richards Bay snake catcher Peter ‘Daring’ Daniel answered an SOS call on Monday morning about a spitting cobra at the Bell Equipment forestry workshop in Felixton.

He had little trouble in locating and capturing the 1.1m female, but he did have to put up with quite a bit of unladylike spitting from the young creature.

Job done and no doubt Peter and his fellow snake circle members will be relishing many more such challenges over the next few months.

His snake season had started slowly by his standards, with ‘only’ four forest cobras so far in just two days.
