WATCH | South Coast communities and security remain on edge
Local communities and security forces are doing their utmost to protect infrastructure in the area.
Despite a few running battles throughout last night, all is relatively quiet on the South Coast today.
It appears at this stage that two shops in Hibberdene and KFC in Gamalakhe were vandalized last night.
Earlier today lots of smoke was seen billowing from the Ugu market building.
Most businesses are closed along the coast, with only a few open, and only for a short while.
Road blocks have been strategically set-up by the various community groups all along the coast.
In Port Shepstone, the community has completely shut the town, and only essential services vehicles allowed in and out.
Community members of Umtentweni have also taken it upon themselves to have road blocks on the R61 and Rethman Drive.
A community meeting was held at Southport petrol station this morning.
Community members got together to work as the eyes and ears for the police.
People are asked if they do visit the shops to not over stock up on food, and petrol, as it is unclear when the coast will get further supplies.
There are concerns about food supplies, and it is unclear at this stage, as to when the next delivery to the coast will be.
Petrol is needed to keep emergency personnel vehicles operating.
