Weather service warns of potential veld fires
Hot, dry and windy weather conditions could lead to veld fires in parts of Gauteng.
The South African Weather Service today released a warning of potential veld fires
The service’s website explained that the hot, dry and windy weather conditions that are currently gripping most of the province have lead to an extremely high fire danger, Germiston City News reports.
The weather service has also predicted that the uncommonly high temperatures that have been experienced over the past few days, after the cold snap over the weekend, will continue to remain in the high 20s and low 30s heading into the weekend and next week.
The service this morning released the following warnings:
- Veld fires
Veld fires may be expected in places in Gauteng due to the hot weather.
Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.
They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.
Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
