Western Cape rains: Craven Week forced to change venue

Both the U18 Craven Week and the U16 Grant Khomo Week will be played at alternative venues.

The heavy rains in the Western Cape have caused SA Rugby to change the venue for the upcoming annual U18 Craven Week.

After consulting with the local organising committee, SA Rugby have decided to move the 2023 Craven Week to Outeniqua Park in George.

The tournament, the second in the 2023 Youth Weeks programme, kicks off on July 3 and will run until July 8.

It was initially scheduled to take place at Hoërskool Outeniqua in George, but the local organising committee informed SA Rugby that the school’s fields would not be able to handle the heavy workload due to the persistent rain that has fallen in the area in recent weeks.

As a result, the decision was taken to move the Craven Week to Outeniqua Stadium, the home ground of the SWD Eagles. However, Hoërskool Outeniqua – who are celebrating their centenary this year – will still host four matches on their C-Field on Saturday July 8.

The venue for the U16 Grant Khomo Week was changed to Hoër Landbouskool Boland near Paarl recently, while the U16 and U18 Girls Weeks are still scheduled to take place at Jeppe High School for Boys in Johannesburg.

Updated Youth Weeks programme 2023:

U16 Grant Khomo Week:
  • Venue: Hoër Landbouskool Boland, Paarl
  • Date: June 26 to 29
U18 Craven Week:
  • Venue: Outeniqua Park, George
  • Date: July 3 to 8
U16 and U18 Girls Weeks
  • Venue: Jeppe High School for Boys, Johannesburg
  • Date: July 10 to 14
