Westville man murdered in home invasion

The homeowner's wife opened the front door to let the dogs out when she was confronted by two men wearing balaclavas.

A Westville man, believed to be in his 50s, has died in hospital after being stabbed during a home invasion this morning, Highway Mail reports.

Westville SAPS communications officer, Capt Elizabeth Squires, said the homeowner’s wife had just opened the front door to let the dogs out when she was confronted by two men wearing balaclavas.

“They forced themselves into the house. A confrontation ensued between the suspects and the family.

“The man was stabbed in the chest and his 18-year-old son was also stabbed in his right thigh,” said Squires.

Advanced Life Support paramedic, Garrith Jamieson said the man sustained a critical stab wound and was stabilised at the scene by advanced life support paramedics before he went in to cardiac arrest.

Jamieson said despite the paramedics’ and doctors’ attempts at the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries.

“The son and his wife sustained moderate injuries.”

Squires added that the suspects fled with a wallet and Samsung cellphone.

A case of house robbery and murder has been opened at Westville SAPS.
