Whistle-blower and former MP Vytjie Mentor dies

Vytjie Mentor, known as for her role as a whistle-blower on state capture, has died after a long illness.

Vytjie Mentor (58), a former member of parliament, has died after being hospitalised for several months.

The Citizen reports that Herman Mashaba, Action SA leader, confirmed her passing in a statement.

“This morning, her family called to inform us that she had succumbed to her illness after being hospitalised for several months.

“It should not be forgotten that Vytjie Mentor was the first to sound the alarm on what we today call ‘State Capture’.”

News24 reports that Mentor will be remembered as a whistle-blower, who claimed in 2016 that Ajay Gupta offered her a job as a minister. She resigned from the ANC in 2019, after which she joined the ACDP.
Mentor was a member of ActionSA since 2020.

ActionSA said Mentor was a patriot who served her country in the face of criticism.

“We will keep the family and friends of Vytjie in our thoughts and prayers and ask that her loved ones be given privacy to grieve during this time.”
