Witbank policeman fatally shoots wife, himself

A cloud of disbelief is still hanging over the city after a policeman shot and killed his wife and later turned the firearm on himself.
Sgt Elvis Sithole who is stationed at Witbank SAPS allegedly shot his estranged wife, Busi Mokwana on Thursday, January 3 in Tasbet Park.
Sithole’s colleagues started searching for him after shooting his estranged wife, and during that time he kept on sending text messages to them threatening that he was going to end his own life as well.
He was found at his home and after several attempts to convince him to turn his gun in; he shot himself in front of his colleagues.
He was rushed to hospital, but later died.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has once again urged members of the SAPS and the community to refrain from using violence which at times becomes deadly, in settling domestic problems but to utilise services available to them.
He further said that while the province is still shocked by the death of four children in Klarinet, who were allegedly killed by their own mother and are yet to be buried, this latest domestic-related incident has shocked the community
“Violence or suicide will never be a solution to problems,” said General Zuma.
