Woman crashes bakkie into barriers at toll plaza near Ermelo

A non-gating crash cushion diverted her from crashing into a solid slab of concrete that could have potentially killed her.

A woman crashed the bakkie she was travelling in into barriers at the N17 Toll Plaza on her way to Ermelo.

The incident happened just before 16:00 on Sunday.

The provincial ambulance service responded promptly and reported that the woman had possibly suffered a spinal injury.

These cushions consist of crushable, energy-absorbing cartridges surrounded by a framework of steel Quad-Beam panels.

According to an EMS paramedic, the woman was admitted to Mediclinic Ermelo for further treatment.

Along with EMS, All City Towing Services was also on the scene.
