Woman raped after accepting ride from stranger
A 20-year-old woman has allegedly been raped after she accepted a ride from an unknown man in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal.
It is alleged the unidentified woman, who had been walking near the Moss Street bridge on Sunday, stopped when a car pulled up in front of her. The driver offered the woman a ride in his vehicle,Phoenix Sun reported.
The man drove to a secluded area in Waterloo, near Umdloti Beach Road, where he allegedly raped her for almost an hour in the nearby bushes.
The victim then walked to the offices of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after the man dropped her off in the Verulam area.
Head of RUSA Prem Balram said the woman arrived at the RUSA offices at about 11.30pm to report what had happened.
The suspect’s description and motor vehicle description were circulated to all reaction officers who searched the area.
Balram said the victim was treated by paramedics after she suffered an anxiety attack.
In a separate incident, a 31-year-old man was allegedly gang-raped by three women in Tembisa, on the East Rand after he was given a lift by three women driving a BMW last month.
“It is believed that one of the women produced a firearm and pointed it at the victim. Another woman took a cloth and blindfolded him,” said Tembisa police cluster’s communications director Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha.
The women then drove around with the man some more and eventually tied him up inside a garage.
