Would-be robber knocked out cold after falling through ceiling
CCTV footage has emerged showing a would-be robber falling through the ceiling of Crossings Spar in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
The man is seen falling from the ceiling in front of the tobacconist kiosk in the early hours of Tuesday morning and being immediately knocked unconscious by the impact.
It was believed the man plummeted about four metres, Lowvelder reported.
A female baker, who was working night shift in the shop’s bakery, found the unconscious burglar on the floor and ran to open the door for security services.
Police arrived shortly after and took the man into custody.
“We are just glad the man was unconscious when the baker came running out, or he probably would have taken her hostage,” one of the managers said.
It was believed that the man moved the ceiling tiles to access the tobacconist, but he did not realise the ceiling would give way when he stood on it.
He is expected to appear in court on charges of attempted robbery later this week.
