Western Province suffer flyhalf setback

Kade Wolhuter, who plays for DHL Western Province suffered a knee ligament injury that has put an end to his season.

Western Province suffered a major setback at flyhalf after Kade Wolhuter confirmed yesterday that his season is over.

Province travels to the Mbombela Stadium on Friday to take on Currie Cup defending champions the Pumas, but will now do so without one of their brightest young stars.

Wolhuter confirmed on his social media pages yesterday that he has suffered a knee ligament injury that has brought his season to a premature end.

The 21-year-old has been a mainstay in the No 10 jersey for Province this season, as he targeted getting back into the form that saw him make his DHL Stormers debut in 2020.

It is the second anterior cruciate ligament tear that the young playmaker has suffered in his fledgling career.

“What a way to bring the season to an end!” Wolhuter said in a post.

“Second ruptured anterior cruciate ligament , right knee this time, so at least I’ll be symmetrical!

“Tough nine months ahead of me, but we’ve done it once before so bring it on again.”

Wolhuter’s injury leaves the experienced Jean-Luc du Plessis and 2022 junior Springbok captain Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu as Province’s available options at flyhalf.
