Zuma barred from standing as candidate in upcoming polls

The IEC said Jacob Zuma was not eligible to be on the candidate list for the upcoming May 29 general elections.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has barred former president Jacob Zuma from standing as a candidate for the upcoming general elections.

Zuma’s political organisation, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has put him on the top of the elections candidate list submitted to the IEC.

However, briefing the media on Thursday, IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya, said Zuma was not eligible to be on the candidate list for the upcoming May 29 general elections.
