UD Trucks South Africa recognised for its empowerment initiatives

Transformation and empowerment are buzzwords in today’s commercial environment, and being recognised for one’s efforts is all worthwhile. Read here about UD Trucks’ recent accolade.

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa’s (Naamsa) Annual Accelerator Awards recognised UD Trucks Southern Africa for spearheading Women and Youth Empowerment and the Most Improved BBBEE OEM.

Naamsa’s Annual Accelerator Awards is considered the most prestigious awards in the automotive industry, recognising best-performing brands across the entire automotive value chain across various segments and categories.

The recent recognition of UD Trucks by the industry highlights the company’s commitment to continually becoming a catalyst for skills development, employment equity and preferential procurement – an important factor in contributing to the development of sustainable economic activity in the commercial vehicle industry.

Filip van den Heede, managing director of UD Trucks SA, comments on the notable achievements. “We are extremely honoured to be recognised on such a significant platform. These accolades represent our continued efforts to transform ourselves into a truly South African company. Additionally, I recognise our incredible team for going the extra mile to achieve our current BBBEE status. As a purpose-driven organisation committed to a better life for the planet, people and growth, we remain focused on driving a transformation agenda beyond legislative requirements.”

UD Trucks partnered with the Commercial Transport Academy to develop a women’s driver training programme. Twenty-four women have already undergone this driver training with two Kuzer light-medium duty trucks sponsored by UD Trucks. Its vision extends beyond learning to drive to contribute meaningfully to society by delivering value and transforming society.

“This is a major milestone for us, and it strengthens our steadfastness to continue our pursuit to proactively drive and invest in initiatives that contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s socio-economic transformation,” concluded Janet Frost, director of human resources at UD Trucks Southern Africa.
