Ford SA issues new safety recall for Ranger bakkie

Ford owners affected by a Ranger recall are urged to book their vehicle in for a free software update to fix a defect linked to longer stopping distances and potential accidents.

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has commenced a safety recall to address a loss of the brake boost feature affecting certain 2025 and 2026 Rangers.

According to the firm, affected units will see the anti-lock brake system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and brake warning signals illuminate on the instrument cluster and display an informational message. An audible alert will further warn the driver of the failure, which will result in increased stopping distances and a higher risk of an accident. From the driver’s perspective, affected units can experience a change in brake pedal feel or require increased effort when braking.

Failure of the brake boost feature

  • Models affected: Ranger, built between 2025 and 2026
  • Reason for safety recall: Failure of the brake boost feature
  • Number of units affected in South Africa: 5 387
  • Number of units affected in Namibia: 157
  • Number of units affected in Botswana: 113
  • Number of units affected in Eswatini: 19

FMCSA is contacting affected customers and advising them to schedule an appointment at their preferred dealership, where an inspection and repair will be done. The necessary software update for affected vehicles will be done free of charge.
