Suzuki Across compact SUV confirmed for SA

Confirmed for a 2026 local debut, the Suzuki Across will slot above the Grand Vitara, with mild-hybrid power, a tech-rich cabin and a comprehensive suite of safety features.

Suzuki Auto South Africa has confirmed the Across for our market in 2026. We highlight what you can expect from the new model.

Following its global debut, we detailed five facts about Suzuki’s new Victoris compact SUV, mentioning that, should it come to South Africa, it will be known by a different name in our market, with reports suggesting ‘Across’. Well, we can now confirm that this model will make its way to SA and, indeed, don the latter moniker.

The Across measures 4 360mm in length, making it 15mm longer than the Grand Vitara. The newcomer also stands slightly taller than the latter model, 1 655 vs 1 645mm. The width and wheelbase match the Grand Vitara’s – 1 795 and 2 600mm, respectively.

The Across was revealed with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine incorporating the firm’s 12 V SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology, which features an integrated starter generator and lithium-ion battery for improved fuel consumption, and a Toyota-sourced ‘Strong Hybrid’ setup. However, we expect the Across will exclusively employ the former powertrain in our market.

The 12 V mild-hybrid 1.5-litre (1 462dm3) unit produces 75.8kW and 139N.m of torque, available from 6 000 and 4 300r/min, respectively. The naturally aspirated four-pot is coupled with either a five-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic – the latter paired with either a front-wheel or the firm’s AllGrip Select all-wheel drivetrain.

Suzuki Across SA launch date

Produced at Suzuki’s Kharkhoda assembly facility in Haryana, India, the Across is set to launch in SA in 2026. The Japanese automaker’s local arm has yet to confirm an exact launch date for the new model.

Stepping inside, the Across’ interior plays host to such items as 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system incorporating wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone screen mirroring. The SmartPlay Pro X setup also features Alexa Auto Voice AI. Music is relayed through the cabin via an eight-speaker Infinity by Harman audio system with Dolby Atmos 5.1 surround sound. Ambient lighting with 64 hues to choose from is also present. Further included are a wireless smartphone charging bay, 360-degree surround-view camera array, front and rear park distance sensors, and a panoramic sunroof. The driver’s seat is eight-way electrically adjustable and ventilated.

Safety items include six airbags as standard and several advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The suite of ADAS includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, among others.
