First drive: iCAUR V23 EV set for SA launch in May
Ahead of its South African launch, CAR sampled the retro-styled iCAUR V23 EV in flagship AWD guise.

Ahead of the iCAUR V23’s official SA launch, we got behind the wheel of the Chery new-energy sub-brand’s retro-styled all-electric SUV.
Scheduled to make its local debut in May, the V23 is available in two flavours: 2WD and AWD, the latter of which features in the video below.
Performance and battery options
The 2WD derivative is equipped with a single rear-mounted electric motor, fed by a 60kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, producing 100kW and 180Nm of torque.
The all-paw model’s dual electric motors – sited on the front and rear axles, respectively – produce a combined system output of 155kW and 292Nm. The AWD derivative features an 82kWh battery.
According to iCAUR, the RWD’s battery can receive up to 85kW at a DC fast-charging station, the latter allowing for a 20-80% recharge in 36 minutes.
At the same facility, the larger battery equipped to the AWD recharges from 20-80% in ‘just’ over 40 minutes, the Chinese automaker says.

Interior and features
The RWD and AWD models roll on 19- and 21-inch alloy wheels, respectively.
The interior is available with the choice of three colour options and is equipped with myriad nice-to-haves, including 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring as standard.
A seven-speaker audio system is also present.
Safety equipment
On the safety front, the V23 features six airbags and Isofix child-seat anchorage points.
The flagship AWD package also includes several advanced driver assistance systems. The latter includes adaptive cruise control, upgrading from the RWD’s standard cruise control setup, front collision warning, blind-spot monitoring and lane departure warning.
In February, the V23 scored the full complement of five stars at ASEAN NCAP.
