Following July reports that the Tata Osprey would join the Indian manufacturer’s local line-up, Tata’s South African division has taken to Instagram to confirm when the compact SUV will arrive in the country.

Globally known as the Nexon in its home market, the Osprey will be positioned between the Punch and Curvv in Tata’s local line-up. The compact five-seater crossover measures 3 995mm in length, 1 804mm in width, and 1 620mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2 498mm. The Osprey sports a 208mm ground clearance. The firm claims a boot capacity of 382l.

The Osprey will arrive in South Africa in September, with official pricing and specifications expected to be released closer to the launch date.

While Tata SA has yet to announce the local powertrain line-up, the Osprey is offered with three engine options in other markets.

The first is the company’s Revotron 1.2l three-cylinder turbopetrol, shared with the Curvv, which produces 88kW and 170N.m. In India, a CNG (compressed natural gas) variant of this mill is also available. Additionally, the Osprey can be had with the carmaker’s Revotorq 1.5l, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which develops 84.5kW and 260N.m of torque.

Transmission options include a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual, a six-speed automated manual (AMT) and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
