Mr and Miss TUT Ga-Rankuwa crowned
TUT hosted another fantastic Mr and Miss TUT Ga-Rankuwa beauty pageant at the university’s Aula hall in Ga-Rankuwa. Drama, humour and beautiful people entertained the crowds.
The Tshwane University of Technology hosted its annual Mr and Miss TUT Ga-Rankuwa beauty pageant at the university’s Aula hall in Ga-Rankuwa last Friday and it was particularly spectacular this year.
The theme was Spring Fiesta and the event was full of drama. Gomolemo Kekana was crowned queen after she was thrown in the deep end by the judges. Kekana went against the norm when the top six contestants were asked to answer questions. The judges asked her to tell them something interesting about herself and instead of responding with a well-polished answer, she challenged the judges by saying she would have liked a better question.
The flabbergasted judges then asked her a daunting question: who she would choose to crown as queen besides herself. Kekana simply responded by saying that she was the only one who deserved the title. Although Kekana stunned the judges, she had already won the hearts of the audience with her impressive walk and confidence. The crowd went crazy every time she made an appearance on stage. Whilst the men in the audience were infatuated with the witty Kekana, the ladies fell in love with the third-year accounting student crowned king, Boitshoko Thubakgale.
Rising comedian Tshepo Twala, known by his stage name Ditsebe.com, hosted the entire event, keeping the crowd entertained with his jokes. The Movement Band made it a point to wow the audience with their live music.
Miss TUT 2013 said she felt this was a great accomplishment: “I have wanted this title for the past year and I have worked very hard. I set myself a certain standard and I had to perform.” Thubakgale said that he could not be more delighted. “I feel happy to be the winner and it took me a long time to prepare for this contest. I would like to thank everybody who participated in making this event a success, especially the sponsors,” he said.
The runner-ups were Charlotte Maseko (first princess) and John Khoza (first prince). Event organiser Rofhiwa Ramulondi said that the event went well. The event was followed by an after-party.
