Local rapper motivates and inspires

A rapper from Eersterust has made it his mission to inspire others and encourage self-acceptance after going through numerous personal trials and tribulations.

Jonathan Groenewald is an unstoppable force determined to make his voice known in all four corners of the earth. Groenewald, better known as 2J Harmonix, is a rapper from Eersterust who is known for his thought-provoking lyricism and clever wordplay.

At the age of two, he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and was faced with the greatest hurdle he would ever have to overcome, self-acceptance.

Being an introvert without friends, he began jotting down his emotions in the form of aggressively charged rap lyrics and poetry in order to let go of his negative views on life.

His outlet became his passion, and eventually led to him breaking out of his shell and publicly expressing himself at poetry sessions and elsewhere. “Today my music bears a more positive message, highlighting the bittersweet nature of my disability and the human instinct to overcome adversity,” he said.

‘I’m unstoppable’ is a tagline many would hear him say, and his goal is for the world to hear his story and be motivated to never give up. 2J Harmonix is releasing his debut hip hop album, Motivation, on 10 March and he hopes that listeners will be motivated by the ten-track album.

One of the tracks on the album, Thank God, featuring Flexboogie and Delite, was inspired by 2J’s tenacity to succeed not only in hip hop, but in life as well. He gave thanks to God for blessing him with the gift to inspire others and the greater gift of self-love through acceptance.
