Penguins entertain moviegoers

Real penguins delight moviegoers at new animated movie Penguins.

Young and old gathered at The Grove Mall on Sunday for the premiêre of Madagascar spin-off Penguins of Madagascar. The animated movie, now showing at Ster-Kinekor, features Kowalski, Rico, Private and Skipper.

For the event four penguins from the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa also become ambassadors for their kind.

The four penguins, brothers and sisters Sonny, Stormy, Teffie and Nellie – all raised in captivity, formed part of the promotional project for the new Penguins movie, and moviegoers learned interesting facts about the animals. The project’s aim was to teach young and old about the importance of conservation, and about respecting nature, and all its creatures.

During the promotional run, the four penguins will be known as Kowalski, Rico, Private and Skipper, named after the four penguins in the movie.

During the day, children had the opportunity to come face to face with the beautiful penguins, who were completely comfortable with human interaction, and were even willing to let some of the children touch them.
