Pretty in pink
Sunday's Pink Ballon Race for Cancer was well supported.
The gloomy weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of locals who came out in numbers to support the Pink Balloon Race on Sunday.
The race was an initiative of the Ballito Autohaus and the Ballito Lions Club to raise funds for the Ballito Cancer Support Network (BCSN).
Lions president and Ballito Autohaus principal dealer Paul Naidoo said the race, which is in its third year, was the Lions’ effort to bring together the community in the fight against cancer.
“Breast cancer is a serious concern in our community and Ballito Autohaus felt this was one of the social uplifting programmes that we would like to fund,” said Naidoo.
The race took off from the Autohaus and while some played it safe with four kilometres, others were not afraid to double that.
BCSN Chairwoman Jamie Ernst spoke to the participants about the importance of looking after your health and encouraged the walkers to go for regular check ups. She also thanked the Lions and the Autohaus for hosting the annual event and said more needed to be done to support those affected by cancer
“The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know but by who we are. You are special, do not ever forget that,” concluded Ernst.
