Half a century of community celebrated by Tongaat High School Class of ’76
About 90 classmates, spouses, teachers and friends attended the recent reunion, with some coming from as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.
Fifty years after leaving Tongaat High School, the Class of 1976 reunited in Umhlanga to celebrate five decades of friendship and shared memories.
About 90 classmates, spouses, teachers and friends attended the recent reunion, with some coming from as far afield as Australia and New Zealand. The group included many successful professionals, including internationally known epidemiologist Prof Quarraisha Abdool Karim, whose husband and fellow epidemiologist, Prof Salim Abdool Karim, delivered the keynote address.
The reunion also marked the beginning of plans for a Tongaat High School ‘Legacy Project’ aimed at preserving the school’s heritage. The initiative was welcomed by current members of the school community.
