All things bling and sparkly

The festival of lights was celebrated around the North Coast On Saturday.

Hindu devotees from Shakaskraal, Stanger and Tongaat celebrated Diwali in a spectacle of lights, music and good food on Saturday.

Diwali is known as the festival of lights and is one of the widely celebrated events in the Hindu calendar. It is a celebration of good triumphing over evil.

In Shakaskraal the young and old enjoyed the fireworks, performance and local radio personality Pravesh Sunker entertained the crowd at Shakaskraal Secondary School.

The Aashiqui Showband and other music groups left the audience wanting more.

Chairman of the Shakaskraal Diwali organising committee, Ashywn Dhani said he was glad to see that people did not let “a few drops of rain hold them back from enjoying a fantastic event”.

“We would like to thank Sembcorp Siza Water, Ilembe district municipality and other sponsors for helping us make this event a success,” said Dhani.

Shree Hanuman Temple and councillor Madhun Sobram Sing spread the Diwali cheer by distributing over 300 hampers in the Stanger Manor area.

The same was done in Tongaat at the Brake Village Sri Siva Soobramaniar Alayam Temple.
