Tongaat's hottest cars line up for charity.
Like a scene out of a Fast and Furious movie, modded-up cars lined up at Silverdale Primary in Tongaat on Saturday afternoon.
The school hosted its inaugural Show and Shine competition in an effort to raise funds to build a shelter over the pupils’ assembly area.
Professor Roger Coopoosamy who helped organise the event, was excited about the turnout.
“This the first time we are running this event in Tongaat, we have had a lot of interest and we have been advertising for just over two weeks,” he said.
The show and shine was mainly focused on sound, which was made obvious by the rumble of sub woofers as cars rolled onto the school’s football pitch.
“The emphasis is on the sound pressure levels of the car’s sound systems. We also judge contestants on originality and their set-up inside the car,” said Coopoosamy.
The word spread quickly about the competition.
“I heard about the event via whatsapp. It is for charity so we said lets go for it and have some fun,” said Farzana Amod, one of a handful of female contestants. Her Ford Fiesta ST was hardly out of place amongst the competition.
There were 58 entrants in the event, with 47 competing in the sound pressure levels sound off and 11 in the show and shine. Over 200 people watched from the seating next to the field as contestants took their turn testing their sound levels.
“The event was a success and we wish to thank all spectators and participants for their support. Furthermore, we will look into hosting another show in the near future,” the Professor said.
