Fibre explosion in Ballito and Umdloti
In a series of articles, Vox Telecom will share their wide range of services

Finally, the long-awaited installation of an open access fibre optic network is happening in Ballito and Umdloti.
Some of our estates have enjoyed superfast fibre internet for some time now and it is now also rolling out to the freehold homes in the leafy suburbs.
With all the talk about fibre, some of us can’t help feeling overwhelmed by the choices we now have – from what internet service provider to choose, to what speed and how much bandwidth to buy.
In series of articles, we will look to demystify Fibre-To-The-Home or FTTH as it is often referred to.
What is Open Access?
Open Access means that once the fibre is deployed in your area, you are free to choose which Internet Service Provider (ISP) you would like to sign up with and for how long you would like to contract.
What benefit does Open Access bring?
Simply, it encourages healthy competition among service providers, drives lower prices and better service delivery. It also eliminates the lengthy 2-year contract agreements. Month-to-month contracts are the most popular.
How do I know if Fibre is available in my area?
If you haven’t yet received a pamphlet in your mailbox, you can visit www.vox.co.za, go to Home User > Fibre to the Home > Check Availability and Pricing and go to the map to enter your address.
The corresponding legend will then show you fibre availability in your area.
Social media is a great way to keep your finger on the pulse when it comes to fibre.
Be sure to like Vox Facebook page and join the local community Facebook groups.
What package should I buy?
What package you need really boils down to what you want to use the internet for. Do you only use the internet to send e-mails and surf or would you like to stream movies, music, have remote access to your home security cameras and alarm system?
How many people are going to be connected to the internet simultaneously in your home on various devices? Perhaps you would like to watch Netflix while your child is watching videos on YouTube, and your other child is talking on Skype or Facebook Messenger with his or her friends overseas.
The table below will help in selecting a package that suits your family’s digital lifestyle.
When in doubt, start with 10Mbps. The upgrade path to more speed is easy.
How do I learn more about the Fibre to the Home?
If you need help to better understand fibre coverage in your area, your package options and associated pricing SMS “Ballito” or “Umdoli” to 43322. Standard SMS rates apply.
