Enter a world of adventure at Sugar Bay kid’s resort

Gone are the days of having to build secret tree houses and pillow forts to keep the parents out

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful seaside village of Zinkwazi where the rolling hills of sugarcane meet the warm Indian Ocean is a camp so cool, only kids are allowed.

Since 2001, Sugar Bay Camp for Kids has been providing life changing adventure holiday camps for children from far and wide, giving them the opportunity to have fun, build character and make new friends for life.

Situated just 40 minutes north of Durban, the American-style summer camp is a dream turned reality after founder Nic Ellender, a mechanical engineer and his wife Zoe, an attorney, decided to take the leap and say goodbye to their 9 to 5 jobs and hello to a world of outdoor adventures, perfectly suited for our future generations.

Both Nic and Zoe have extensive experience in caring for, entertaining and managing children of different age groups.

They love to see children making the most of their special talents and abilities and are committed to providing the ultimate holiday experience.

Built from the ground up on a secure 16-acre property, Sugar Bay has private access to Zinkwazi lagoon and waterfront, and houses facilities such as a swimming pool, rugby field, wooden cabins, water slides, dining and activities hall and much more.

To make the experience even more unique, each camp is designed around a different theme which informs the decor and itinerary for the week.

Zoe expressed the importance of children spending time in a different and positively challenging environment with limited communication to the ‘outside world’.

“Without a phone or means to access social media, the children are able to totally immerse themselves in the camp and their activities and duties.”

“Every day is different and we are always kept on our toes!”

The children are also given free reign to choose which classes and activities they would like to take part in. This is part of the privilege of being at a ‘kids only’ camp.

Over 100 instructional activities are on offer and each one encourages campers to meet their full potential, no matter their level of ability.

But it is not just the location and facilities that make this camp so inviting.

The trusty counselors add a unique touch to the experience, with each one going by a different nickname in line with their character.

They are there to teach, guide, encourage and motivate each and every child, and with a 1:3 staff to child ratio, they are able to build a strong bond with every camp member.

“Our camp counselors are specifically trained and experienced in the growth and developmental needs of the different age groups, and are a fundamental part of the camp.”

“They are such a valuable part of Sugar Bay.”
