Pepper Pick & More drives expansion through farm-fresh produce

With quality produce sourced from farms on the North and South Coast, store owner Lindiwe Nxumalo believes they will continue to grow from strength to strength.

In just a year and eight months a quaint little fruit and veg corner shop in Ballito Junction has grown from merely selling peppers to stocking a wide variety of fresh, quality produce, all at competitive prices.

Pepper Pick & More has already made a name for itself despite its small size.

Established in December 2020, Pepper Pick & More originally sold only peppers which were sourced from the pepper farm at Dube AgriZone – a top notch facility where peppers are grown in greenhouses year-round.

The same facility supplies well-known retailers.

Lindiwe says she and her husband come from a family of farmers and have experience when it comes to sourcing quality produce.

“Quality is our focal point, and that is the value we want to pursue for our customers. Stock is rotated and delivered to the store every second day, and sometimes daily because of high demand,” she says.

“Our source model is farm-based and we are supplied by Global Gap accredited farmers and farmers’ market agents who share our values of eco-friendly produce.”

While the small store already packs quite a punch in terms of what it is able to offer, it has expanded to include online orders with an online store newly established.

“This will allow customers to shop online with us, being able to place orders for collection at our kiosk or for delivery. We now also offer meat combos which are only available for delivery through online orders,” says Lindiwe.

With a history of overseeing farming operations, Lindiwe expanded into setting up a store to drive further growth opportunities for her and her husband’s farm.

A Ballito local, Lindiwe says she felt there was a gap in the local market for quality produce and she also wishes for the community to support local farmers for food security and growth.

“It is with this in mind that we also offer specials for restaurants and pensioners,” she says.

With the mindset of encouraging people to grow their own produce and cultivate an ethos of ‘one home, one garden’, they also offer seedlings in bulk.
