Body of murder victim recovered in rural Maphumulo

Saps already has an undisclosed number of suspects in custody.

Condolences are streaming in for Nontokozo Gumede and her family after her father’s body was recovered from a cliff in rural Maphumulo on Friday morning.

IPSS Search and Rescue, various Saps Search and Rescue and Saps K9 Search and Rescue units were called in to recover the body spotted in a difficult-to-reach area.

“Due to the inaccessibility of the body and dangerous terrain, a rope system was set up to allow members to access and recover the body,” said IPSS Search and Rescue’s Samantha Meyrick.

The operation took several hours to complete, after which the body was handed over to Maphumulo police for processing and further investigation.

Meyrick confirmed on Sunday that Gumede’s father was suspected to have been murdered and that Maphumulo Saps already had an undisclosed number of suspects in custody.
