#Letter: Look past party politics for the common good
There is a noticeable set of commonly recurring themes that appear in the priorities listed by each of the political parties.
Ballito resident Tony Kruger writes:
With reference to the question and answer article with KwaDukuza mayoral candidates (Courier, October 30, ‘KwaDukuza’s priorities under the spotlight‘) and the upcoming local elections.
There is a noticeable set of commonly recurring themes that appear in the priorities listed by each of the political parties. These being water, roads, and electricity.
So, given that the respective parties have so much in common in regard to priorities, are the conditions not ripe for them to set aside the petty politicking after the local elections, and rather join and fix these common causes together?
Sure, there will be debates about where, when and how the taxpayer revenue will be spent. This may well be a difficult task, given ward councillors have to satisfy the immediate needs of their constituents and the wealth disparities between communities in KwaDukuza.
But again, since there is so much overlap, surely the better way forward is to work together? Ah, but of course! I’m not living in the real world where political point scoring trumps community well being.
