The JumpStart Challenge is here
The JumpStart Challenge serves as fundraiser for the Mr Price Foundation, which aims to upskill unemployed youth, arming them with the knowledge to pursue careers in the retail sector.
With just days to go before the JumpStart Challenge kicks off at Holla Trails in Sugar Rush Park, mountain bikers and runners are gearing up to make every pedal and step count.
The event serves as a major fundraiser for Mr Price Foundation‘s JumpStart programme, with every entry directly supporting unemployed youth.
Unemployed youth are taught retail skills and given opportunities for employment in the greater retail value chain.
You too can #BeAHero at the hybrid fitness event, which offers entrants either a virtual or physical entry.
Virtual challenges can be done anywhere around the globe from February 27 to March 5.
The physical event will take place on March 4 and 5 at Holla Trails, with the mountain bike events scheduled for March 4 and the run/walk on March 5.
Dolphin Coast Striders, East Coast Cycling and other prominent local clubs are supporting the JumpStart Challenge which promises to be a fun-filled family event which also serves as a training outing for more serious athletes.
“Cycling is a thrilling and highly rewarding sport, giving the youth opportunities for a brighter future,” said East Coast Cycling Club chairman, Daryl Harris.
He challenges all cyclists to take on this event with purpose.
Head of Mr Price Foundation’s JumpStart programme, Yurissa Sawers, challenges all South Africans, and especially those on the North Coast, to take on the challenge.
“Nothing is more powerful than our South African spirit of Ubuntu. Let’s use the JumpStart Challenge as an opportunity to create a more equitable, inclusive world. When we put our hearts and heads together, there is no single problem we can’t begin to address,” said Sawers.
Holla Trails trail master Jasper van Vessem said this event is exactly what is needed to remind everybody that millions of youth are desperate for work.
“The JumpStart Challenge gives us an opportunity to get on our bikes for a good cause,” said Van Vessem.
Holla Trails is one of the country’s most picturesque, yet toughest venues to ride. Van Vessem said the trails at Holla would both test and inspire.
“It has got some beautiful views, it is technical, it is a bit of everything,” he said.
Entrants can ride, run or walk a range of distances, ranging from 3km to 100km.
Saturday, March 4 will also see the launch of the Glide & Ride Cup at Holla Trails.
This mini ‘grand prix’ will see kids on balance bikes zooming around a safe race track. It’s for children aged 2.5 to 4.5 years old, ensuring that the JumpStart Challenge 2023 offers something exciting for everyone, from professional athletes, to teams of colleagues and families with prams and dogs.
