On completion, students receive an internationally recognised National Certificate in Greenkeeping from the Elmwood College, St Andrews, Scotland, as well as a National Diploma in Business Management from the South African Qualifications Authority.

If a career in golf course management appeals to you, the The African Turf Academy is the only educational institution in SA where you can obtain expert knowledge in this field.
The African Turf Academy (ATA) International greenkeeping qualification is also the only internationally recognised qualification of its type offered in Africa.
The Sports turf qualification covers everything relevant to greenkeeping and golf course management, including golf course maintenance, machinery maintenance, turfgrass identification and production, plant husbandry, sports turf nutrition, sports turf soils and rootzones, golf course design and construction, drainage and irrigation, tournament preparation, etiquette and rules.
ATA was founded by the McKenna Academies Group in 2011, and has seen about 150 students placed over the past 10 years.
Courses are now offered at the Mckenna Academies based at the Umhlali Country Club.
The first class was offered in 2022 at Umhlali as a second campus from the world renowned head quarters in Silver Lakes Golf Estate in Pretoria which has been running there since 2011
Students who have completed the course have been placed across the globe at clubs such as Bay Hill Club (USA), Shinnecock Hills (USA), Tower Links Golf Club (UAE), Gleneagles Golf Resort (UK) and Ancient Golf Club (UK).
CEO and founder of McKenna Academies, Andrew McKenna, said about 50% of students who completed the course opted to stay in South Africa, and that many of the country’s top golf courses are now managed by their graduates.
The two-year, full-time programme runs in conjunction with the Tour Player Programme, making it suitable for young, aspiring professional golfers who want to study and play golf.
On completion, students receive an internationally recognised National Certificate in Greenkeeping from the Elmwood College, St Andrews, Scotland, as well as a National Diploma in Business Management from the South African Qualifications Authority.
